Design, production, modelling and analysis of 1D and 2D textile structures and products

The Faculty of Textile Engineering of the Technical University of Liberec was established in the year 1960. The technologies and their innovations, new concepts for modeling fibrous assemblies, and new methods for textile structure evaluation are essential parts of its research activities.

 

The Summer School offers a brief introduction to textile design, production, modeling, and analysis. The main topic concentrates on linear textile structures, which are a part of 2D and 3D hierarchical textiles. Understanding the laws, limitations, and context among the linear textile structures and their other properties allows the modeling and innovation of linear products and a better understanding of flat or three-dimensional fabrics produced, e.g. by weaving or knitting for various kinds of applications.

 

The main aim of this Summer School is to introduce the textile structure and, through methods of learning by doing, allow participants to become familiar with it.

OUTCOMES
  • Getting acquainted with the basic principles of spinning, including the terms used for linear textile description.

  • Understanding how the staple yarn used for standard applications is produced.

  • Getting an idea about the design and production of linear textiles for specific applications.

  • Modeling of selected textile parameters based on known theories for fibers, staple yarns, and woven structures.

  • Experience with the application of the theoretical background for practical examples in the textile area.Basic knowledge of the environment and functions of image analysis and their possible use forthe qualification and quantification of textiles.

  • Practical experience with the evaluation of selected qualitative characteristics via Image Analysis.
